There is a definite trend for rural guesthouses, including ecotourism and agritourism businesses, to use SFSCs. This is not new and has been happening by default across Greece as many of these businesses rely on their local network to obtain fresh food and make it part of their offering. In the last 10 years the trend has been increasing rapidly as government initiatives such as the "Greek Breakfast" award/certificate and public-private initiatives such as "We do Local" (based in Crete) have been encouraging this trend. The return to fresh, local food is also in line with the general tourism trend towards sustainability.
